I AM BOB MARLEY

went to see i am legend with ryan on saturday. i'd say we went with laine too, but she had about 340 seperate groups of friends there. i knew going into it i wasn't going to like it because will smith was in it but i was shocked by the first 3/4ths. it was really good and big willy was good. the fact that it was just him and a dog was great. there were some tense scenes in it that sorta got ruined by the horrible cgi of the "vampires". i thought they should have explored him going crazy a bit more because when he did it was excellent. there was a lot of bad shit in it: obligatory woman and kid, the cgi, and the ending. in the book (apparently) he is a legend because the infected view him as we would view dracula to us. and that is way cooler than making a cure and have the random chick go bring it to the only safe place on earth or whatever.

afterwords we came back to my place to make cookies and watch superbad. laine joined us. all the special features were hilarious. that movie is 100% awesome

mushabooms, shopping and wonder woman snapping maxwell lord's neck

the weekend came and blew by in a flash.

before heading to halifax i had weds off. me and ryan headed to charlottetown to go see wintersleep. the show kicked ass as usual. there were way too many people thought and hunters is a crappy place for a show (yet it's the only place where good bands play). i made it near the front when we arrived, but it was impossible to breathe so i had to move back to where ryan and shannon were. upfront, there was a huge guy pressing up to me and it was so gross. he was too big and should not have been allowed anywhere near the front. a freak of sweaty nature.

thursday saw me and an extremely excited laine venturing off to halifax. it was nice to finally have a bus partner, after making so many solo trips. the time stream opened up and we were already in halifax. that night we went to burger buddies at the ale house with bryanna's roommates nadia and michelle. sharon also came and afterwards took us to the micmac mall. unfortunately the mall was just closing, but it was enough of a teaser to prepare the girls for a friday of shopping. me and bryanna exchanged xmas presents since it was gonna be the last time i made it over before she leaves for ontario. i got her a DS with a mario kart game, and she got me a new hat, slippers and the graphic novel blankets.

on friday i went back to the micmac mall with bryanna and laine. while they hit the stores i made my usual stops by myself. i ended up buying the superman doomsday movie and grand theft auto 3 (for 4 bucks). that night we met up with bryanna's coworkers from the flowershop and went to see feist. we were pretty excited since the last time me and bryanna saw feist, our minds were blown. this time not so much. most of her set was mellow and did not fit the atmosphere of the show. the place was insanely full of people and there was lots of energy. but it kept dying the more slow stuff she played.

on saturday we finally made it to the comic book store haha. i finally found a copy of fables vol. 5. continuing with friday's superman purchase, i bought superman: sacrifice, a lead into infinite crisis. my third purchase was birds of prey: of like minds. this completed my collection of all gail simone's run on the book. then we went to a few more places around bryanna's house and later all fell asleep on bryanna's bed watching the muppets take manhatten.
that night we went to the niche with nadia to go listen to some jazz. at first i didn't want to go because i thought it was gonna be too expensive and too swank of a spot. but drinks were cheap and it was just a great place to go hang out. i want it to become our regular spot.

MOVIE NIGHTS

i've decided to try and watch a movie every night before i go to work, if i'm home. this is what i've watched so far:

Lady in the Water - this movie fucking sucked. i've been a fan of shamawhatevers movies, especially the village. everyone hated that movie and i always defended it. so i figured things were the same with this movie, but no, it was awful. it's been a few weeks so i can't remember in detail what pissed me off but it felt like there was so much left out.

Hot Fuzz - the dudes from shaun of the dead. hilarious. i can't believe i waited so long to see this. the ending was so over the top. i kept forgetting it was a parody movie then all of a sudden BAM an old lady gets kicked in the face.

Little Miss Sunshine - another movie i waited too long to see. i thought it was really good but i was expecting it to be funnier. the dance scene with WORD UP was amazing.

The Mist - went to see this with laine, ryan and lise (and two other people i don;t know). the trailer for this looked great and the movie did not disappoint. since most "scary" movies hollywood churns out are shit, i wasn't expecting much despite the great trailer. but the movie delivered. it wasn't scary because of the creatures, it was the people. and when a certain person gets shot, i couldnt help but clap haha. i really enjoyed thomas jane's acting in this. i was scared it was going to end lame but boy was the ending good... and horribly depressing.

The Killing - i've been meaning to borrow this from ryan and finally did. it's pretty much your typical heist movie. i enjoyed it.

surf's up, dude!

i watched fantastic four: rise of the silver surfer, yesterday. holy fuck was it ever bad. i knew it was gonna be bad but fuck it's bad and not in a good way. so sue is pissed off at reed because he isn't being focused on their wedding. so he agrees to put things off and stay focused but reed is reed and can't. and when the opportunity comes up to try to discover what a potential world threat's origins are, he dives right in. sue eventually finds out and flips out on him for being a... hero? you have powers bitch, it's your job to save the fucking world. not piss and moan about not being able to have a wedding. jessica alba is not sue storm. it's pretty much the worst casting in movie history. gotta love the seen where she's fucking watching entertainment tonight.
why the fuck was dr doom back? he was all healed and didnt need his armor. he must have a thing for it. having galactus in it for 2 seconds was a waste. i'm fine with the whole gas cloud thing, but some explanation would have been nice. and he really didnt feel like that much of threat.
the silver surfer was awesome though.

the untouchables

it must be sweet being a farmer on pei. you can poison fish all you want and now you can poison school kids. awesome stuff.

back from the future

been awhile...

at the end of the summer me and ryan purchased an 8track and started demoing shit. it's been going insanely well. we started doing songs for the gypsy brides record and someone how started a new band called ROMANTIC EVENING. as of right now we have about 18 songs for the gypsy brides (including ones from last winter recorded with nathan).

the gypsy brides
is a continuation of what the neil forbes was. it started out as a side-project while neil was gone to school but has become a main focus for me since the summer while neil was home and never around. it's still in the instrumental post-whatever stylings but it feels different than the neil forbes to me. i'm hoping to get nadia to record some sweet violin on the tracks.

ROMANTIC EVENING was born because we started writing popish songs. i think there are about 6 demoed right now. it'd be nice to find a singer for this. we have one song sort of properly recorded, although stuff will probably added. the song is called: Wonder Woman has her golden lasso wrapped around my heart (but she knows i'd never lie).

and to make things more confusing i've decided to start recording "solo" stuff whenever i am not jamming with ryan. i don't have any idea what it's going to be but i'll probably ask ryan to play drums on it haha
