while bbqing on the front step, i brought out my guitar and bryanna took out her harmonica and we had a little jam session. then we joked how someone with a banjo should come over to play on the front step with us.
i go in the house to use the bathroom and come out to find a bunch of people stopped by with: a banjo, 2 more guitars, tambourine, and some bongos. then nadia brought out her violin. so all of a sudden it's just a massive jam session. we started out with helpless by neil young, which featured a crazy awesome harmonica solo by bryanna.. then mostly we just did random songs i didnt know. then ended with jumping jack flash by the rolling stones. it was a pretty great night. me and bryanna even made up some stuff off to the side, on guitars.
alice and fancy face were recorded during my last year at st fx using grady's shit guitar and neil's bass amp. no maps was recorded at bryanna's place in whitby. effects added in fruity loops. i used the name, the widow, for these.
i did these songs while in whitby using fruity loops and bryanna's keyboard. one is a remix of our flowers, which is from the perfect island objection group of songs
these tunes were recorded during second year at stfx. i did them all on vic's computer while he was gone studying. i think things turned out pretty well considering i was using a computer mic and fruity loops. stricknine lent me his guitar for this. i used the name THE PERFECT ISLAND OBJECTION for this.
these are some songs i did when i moved back home from whitby. a guy i worked with there gave me a copy of music software called reason. this is about as far as i got with it. still haven;'t bothered to properly name the songs.
during first year university jordan, neil and myself jammed and recorded some tunes. at this time jordan was in possesion of an electronic drum kit (vdrums... classic), so we (jordan) put everything on that so we could record onto his computer. i think neil came up with the name empire. we ended up doing 3 songs. im not sure if neil played bass on all the songs, i can't remember. the songs were: Portia, To the Moon, and Princess Sputnick.
Portia i guess was the first attempt at a post-rock genre sound. at the time we thought it was pretty sweet, while everyone else thought it was boring (which led to an internet fight with some shitty band that started with K). turns out it is pretty boring. parts of it i like, but as a whole... no. To the Moon turned out pretty good, but really needs vocals. the end guitar part is pretty boss sounding. Princess Sputnick is your basic rock song. i dont even know if jordan is aware of that song title haha. i think this was the only one neil played bass on. i can remember it took him forever to record his basslines, while i sat on the floor drinking beer, that my cousin trent dropped off for me, and laughing my ass off.
we also jammed some covers because we had this idea in our heads that we could play bar shows at school hahaha. i think we jammed: mogwai - xmas steps smashing pumpkins - the end is the beginning is the end the clash - guns of brixton bush - history black halos - ? dont know the name murder city devils - ? dont know the name
i'm pretty happy how these songs turned out. especially considering i was writing shitty acousitc songs prior to this.
girl in the snow - march 31 this is a song i did at the end of march. i've been really slow with getting back to the computer music and the girl in the snow moniker. this is the only one i've done so far this year. the kool-aid masquerade - paper spiders this is a song me and bryanna did when we spent the summer at her parents place in whitby. i think its a really great ambient track. we used bryanna's old keyboard, a bag of change and bryanna's voice with lots of reverb that sounds like a theremin. the widow - moon this is a song i did during my last year at st fx. jamie grady had lent me a crappy guitar he had and i was using neil's bass amp. i just made a bunch of loops and doused them with reverb and pieced this together in fruity loops, adding a synth pad near the end.
so i just finished watching a12 episode series called school days. my jaw is still on the floor. it turned out so not like i thought. i am going to try and explain it.
makoto likes girl A. he makes friends with girl B, who helps him with hooking up with girl A. while with A, B keeps giving him advice and helping him out. turns out B really likes makoto and lets him get sexual with her for practice with A. makoto realizes its B he really likes and decides to be with B. but he doesnt bother telling A about this. so she keeps hearing it from other people but refuses to belief. this goes on for a few episodes and he just keeps ignoring A and she refuses to believe they are broken up. while this is going C, girl B's best friend wants to make sure makoto is going to stay with B because C is moving and wants to make sure B is taken care. and what do you know, she actually likes him to and ends up kissing him while he is asleep. while makoto and B are supposed to be going out he sleeps with girl D. they continue to secretly bone behind B's back. makoto finally tell A that he doesnt like her anymore and she basically has a break down and goes crazy. now she walks around pretending to talk to him on the phone as if they are still a couple. B finds out about makoto sleeping with D and locks herself in her rooom deperessed for days. while she is doing this, makoto starts sleeping with girl E! another friend of B's. then word starts spreading about him getting so much ass, so like 3 other girls decide they wanna bone him. while all this is going on girl B finds out she is PREGGO! she confront makoto at school in front of everyone. all the girls he had been sleeping with decide they want nothing to do with him. so he gets all depressed and happens to come across A. while this is happening girl B calls him cuz she wants him to come over for dinner and try to work things out. he says he cant and she freaks. so he invites A over to his place and B shows up and slaps the shit out of her. then A tells B about how C loved makoto. B cant believe whats happening, then makoto and A start making out right in front of B LOL she screams NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! and leaves. girl A gets picked up by her parents and she makes plans with makoto for the next day. the next day comes and B asks to meet makoto afterschool. so they go to his place for a talk about the baby. he offers her some tea but she says she'll go make it instead. so while in the kitchen she phones him and goes to another room to answer it and he reads the text message and it says "goodbye", he turns around and she starts stabbing him over and over again until there is blood everywhere. she then runs home. girl A shows up and finds the body. back to B's bedroom, she gets a message from :O makoto! to meet her on the roof of the school (a normal hangout spot they had). she shows up and its girl A on the roof. she starts telling her how it was her makoto wanted all along and then accuses B of not even being preggo and that is was just a way to get attention from makoto. B denies this. OH BUT A IS NOT CONVINCED. she lunges at B with a knife and kills her and cuts a whole in her stomach to see if theres a baby in there. turns out there wasnt :O. cut to a shot of the next day where A is lying down on her boat saying how her and makoto are finally together. intense. all this from what i thought was gonna be a interesting love triangle story. im sure i left out lots but you get the idea haha

http://www.myspace.com/gammagammarays
i saw this band a few years ago opening before the sleepless nights and contrived. i think they were just high school kids at the time so i wasnt expecting much. they turned out to be pretty sweet. i just revisited their ep today and forgot how sweet the song banks is.
the past few weeks i've been on a pretty big anime kick. outlaw star was the typical sci fi space ship stuff mixed with experiencing some crazy god like knowledge at the end. also throw in some comedy. it reminded me a lot of one of my favorite shows, cowboy bebop. odd mix of people ending up on a spaceship going on adventures. then i watched school rumble, which has now opened up a whole new world of stuff for me. its basically about high school crushes and all that. at first i was like this is cheesy as hell. but it's one of the funniest shows and unlike anything i've ever seen. so now i've downloaded other shows in a similar vein and will be hearing japanese in my head for weeks to come.
